CHARACTER NAME: Yukiteru Amano
SERIES: Mirai Nikki
Mirai Nikki@Wikipedia
Yukiteru@Future Diary Wiki
CANON POINT: During Chapter 54, when he's climbing back up to Yuno.
APPEARANCE: Yukiteru and his diary
PERSONALITY:
At first glance, Yukiteru is something of a social outcast. He's the type of person that doesn't try to stand out in a crowd, rather, he tries to blend in or even fall back and out of it. He believes himself, at least initially, as a bystander, a passenger in his own life, to the point that his own diary is filled with everything about him - but not a single thing about himself. It wouldn't be shocking to overlook this type of person completely were one looking at him in a room filled with others.
Once brought into the survival game, by his imaginary friend who happened to actually be God, Yukiteru's goals were fairly straightforward, much like his personality. His lack of a real backbone kept his goals to simply surviving - he didn't want to die. He was scared of mostly everything that happened, and what's more, he left most of the actual action to his stalker, Yuno, due to his own inability to act, lack of confidence in himself, and general fear - both of death and of Yuno, who his feelings for go back and forth on throughout the course of the series.
Combining all of these with the fact that Yukki is very easily influenced by others around him, and you make for quite the protagonist. As Yukiteru is not exactly the biggest man on campus, not to mention he's hardly ever been the most sociable, usually he finds himself letting others take charge or put forward the ideas - in turn, this makes him much less suspiscious of people, even with his diary. Time and time again, he is tricked and manipulated due to his innocence, and even nearly killed on occasion by someone he thought he could trust, only for Yuno to come to his rescue.
One important aspect of Yukki's personality is his love for his parents, and his underlying desire for them to get back together. Even before he started desiring and making friends, even when he was a loner in a class that thought him a loser, all he wanted was to go see the stars again with his parents. He is extremely devoted to them, despite their teasing, and the idea of them getting back together will inspire him to go to great lengths - even after his father tries to betray him, and it's the death of his parents that is the biggest shock to Yukki's system.
This leads to Yukki's other great love, as twisted as it can be sometimes - Yuno. Yukiteru's feelings for Yuno, as previously mentioned, go back and forth throughout the course of the series. She comes off as a homicidal maniac, a stalker, and he becomes scared of her and distrusting of her very easily early on - yet as their time together continues, he starts falling for her, with certain things holding him back, but that becoming less and less important as time goes on, the battles continue, and their dependance on each other increases...
... Of course, that went out the window when she, essentially, kidnapped him, locked him up, and tied him down to keep him "hers" - to keep him "safe." Even so, Yukki and Yuno find themselves pushed together, and Yukki eventually chooses to accept Yuno, above everyone else, even his own friends. His belief in her becomes so dependant and even desperate that it gets to the point where he kills his own friends for her, in a "her or them" scenario, even when they tried to prove her lies to him - for Yuno too was not above manipulating the one she loved most - were just that, yet Yukki chose her nonetheless.
In the end, there lies Yukki's resolve - Yukiteru's choice. Still not the manliest person in the world, still someone who won't stand out in a crowd, still with few tricks up his sleeve besides for throwing darts, he chose Yuno, even when she herself turned against him.
ABILITIES: Yukiteru is your average teenage kid. Aside from his superb dart throwing skills, he's nothing extraordinary. He was granted a diary by his world's God that would tell the future relating to his surroundings, but this ability is more an ability of his cell phone rather than an ability Yukiteru himself possesses. On that note, though, Yukiteru is fairly perceptive when it comes to his surroundings, to the point it became obsessive, almost - that was how hsi future diary came to be in the first place, after all.
POSSESSIONS: Aside from his clothes, all he would have on him would be his cell phone (his future diary, sans the future part now), and some darts.
>PERSONA
MAJOR ARCANA:
In no particular order:
The Hermit: As readers/viewers are introduced to Yukiteru, right off the bat, they learn that he is a loner - a hermit. He keeps to himself, he has no friends (sans a stalker he doesn't even know about right away), and his only real contact with the world are a pair of gods that he assumes are his imaginary friends. In contrast to typical interperetations of the Hermit, however, in Yukiteru's sollitude, he focuses entirely on the world around him as opposed to being introspective - he observes everyone to the point that he obsessively records the world around him in his diary, and he does desire friends. On the other hand, by the series' end, Yukiteru finds that he can't live without Yuno, to the point that he's find existing thousands of years alone without her, floating along in emptiness.
The Lovers: One could argue that the entirety of the series is Yukiteru's path through this Arcana alone. Throughout Mirai Nikki, Yukiteru questions his personal beliefs, he must question what he's told compared to what he feels, and he goes from someone who was alone to someone who has various bonds (namely, his bond with Yuno). He discovers, by the end, what he really cares about - namely, Yuno - and that he's willing to do anything for her, be it climb a cliff as he falls to his death or even give up the happy family (a temptation she forces on him at one point) he'd longed for since before he'd met her. In one way, Mirai Nikki is a story of Yukiteru finding his love for Yuno and getting Yuno to "properly" love him back, while they establish a relationship - to Yukiteru, Yuno goes from a stranger, stalker, girlfriend, and eventually he finds he loves her so much that he can't live in a world without her. This kind of deep, bottomless love, along with all of the decisions and battles that it took to get there, is the kind of love that The Lovers is all about.
The Hanged Man: The Hanged-Man fits Yukiteru in that, even in the midst of a survival game where only one can remain standing, Yukiteru wants to save everyone. He wants to save his friends, his family; everyone. Initially, he is something of a coward, one who relies on Yuno for everything, but as the series goes on, he starts to put more of his self-interest aside, to fight for everyone else - but, in the end, and perhaps most importantly, as the series comes to a close, as he learns more about her past, he begins to focus on Yuno's sake, what he can do for her, even if it means dying.
SHADOW:
Yukiteru's Shadow, in contrast to Yukiteru, would be much more confident seeming. Initially, it would act like Yukiteru did originally - he would act timid, scared, like a coward, and cry out for Yuno to save him when approached. The key word is, of course, he would be acting. As his act of being pitiful and cowardly and entirely dependant goes on, it becomes clearer that he's just mocking these traits of the "true" Yukiteru, and when called on it, the Shadow will show his true colors.
Yukiteru's Shadow would be the total opposite of Yukki to accent the things he feels worst about, but won't openly admit. To that end, this Shadow is a cocky person, and if one were to meet him outside of a dungeon and not knowing the situation, one might even say "that guy radiates cool!" ... about the Shadow, as opposed to the meeker and more silent Yukiteru.
The Shadow would begin to attack Yukiteru about his choices, berating him for letting his friends die, even for killing them, all for a girl. He'd go on about how Akise had always been there for Yukiteru, and how his friends would have been there for him, but instead, Yukiteru chose a psychopathic murderer - because he was a sad, lonely virgin. It's around this point the Shadow would laugh, and point at Yukki, declaring that his parents would be ashamed of him, if they weren't dead all because of him.
Though Yukiteru would, ultimately, be forced to accept the sins that the Shadow declares that he himself has, on some level, accepts already. He knows he has been a coward and too dependant on other people, and is greatly ashamed of it. Once it brings up the more recent deaths of his friends and, more importantly, the deaths of his parents, however, Yukiteru will declare it to not be true, and the Shadow will be able to transform and attack.
The dungeon of Yukiteru's Shadow would be based off of an observatory - the place where he promised to go to with his parents someday. It would represent, in a way, the life he both desired most and the life he's choosing to give up entirely by going after Yuno. As one climbs the observatory, it would be as if, through the transparent walls, they would be climbing closer and closer to space, and on the final floor, it would be as if they were in the stars themselves.
PERSONA:
Zeus
The form Yukiteru's Zeus would take would resemble, ironically, Deus ex Machina, in a variety of way. Yukiteru's Zeus would be sitting on a round, orb-like throne, appearing of Greek construction, to float atop it in battle. Zeus himself would appear somewhat like typical incarnations of Zeus - humanoid, with a mighty trident - but true to unique Personas, it would have SMT flare and appear somewhat demonic as well; most notable, his face and arms would distinctly resemble Deus' in many ways, as opposed to more humanoid Personas. Zeus' trident would, in response to Yukiteru's own skills, appear at first glance like an ancient, giant dart with a three-pronged end.

FIRST PERSON ACTION, JOURNAL, OR PHONE SAMPLE:
[The following are entries in Yukiteru's private cell phone diary.]
5:03 PM: Arrived in the shopping district. Yuno isn't here at first glance, but I'll look in the shops and ask around just in case.
5:10 PM: There's something going on a few stores down. I can't hear well, but it sounds like something about fog and the weather. It doesn't sound like a big deal, and it definitely doesn't sound like it's about Yuno.
5:31 PM: Got stuck in a restaurant for a little while. No one had seen Yuno, but they made me try their special. The food was really good, but there was so much meat in that little bowl, I thought it would never end...
5:45 PM: A bunch of guys were crowding around the tofu shop asking for autographs from the girl at the register, so I couldn't get near it. Not sure why you'd want an autograph from someone like that... It must be a small town thing. Still no trace of Yuno.
6:12 PM: Someone said the river was a popular place for people in my situation, whatever that means, so I'm going to go look for Yuno there.
6:45 PM: There are a lot of people here at the river! Some people are training for something, and there's even a few people fishing.
6:51 PM: No sign of Yuno, but someone said calling her might be easier than wandering around a town I don't know. Why didn't I think of that...? Here goes nothing...
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
He checked his cell phone again. Nothing.
He had been sitting on a bench opening and closing his cell phone for what seemed like forever, yet he knew it couldn't have been that long yet. He'd probably wait twice that for Yuno, though.
He checked his cell phone again.
"Why isn't it working...?!" Yukiteru flipped his phone closed and stuffed it in his pocket, pulling his legs up to his chest on the bench. He thought better when he could curl up into a ball, and while he didn't have a blanket to curl under, this worked just as well - nevermind the stares he was getting.
His cell phone was here. His future diary, however, was not. He was still alive, that much was certain, but Yuno wasn't here.
... Out of force of habit, albeit old habit, Yukiteru began typing away at his diary, like he used to when he didn't know what else to do.
4:04 PM. Some girls across the street are deciding what to get for dinner. A pair of guys are looking at them like they're trying to figure out how to approach them without looking nervous. There aren't that many cars on the street, but there are a few bicycles.
He paused. He was so used to his Random Observation Diary, or "No Difference Diary" as he'd once called it... he'd never thought about what would happen if he could change how it worked. But what if he could...
He started tapping away again. It was a shorter entry, but to Yukiteru, one far more important than the meaningless observations he had put in just a moment ago.
4:05 PM: No sign of Yuno.
"I know you're here somewhere, Yuno..." Yukiteru let his legs fall, leaning back against bench and staring at the sky. The fact he was still here meant that Yuno was here somewhere to. It had to mean that. He had to get to her... somehow. He had to.
Yukiteru looked back at his phone, then tapped out a quick entry.
4:06 PM: Going to shopping district to look for Yuno.
As Yukitery got up and adjusted his hat, he got the feeling that if his future diary's abilities kicked in again, their entries would be a lot less random than he was used to.
Right now, that was just what he was hoping for.
